Classy Baby!

I bought several hanks of Lorna’s Nelle. It was just to lovley and soft, and well, Rachel’s babies are always such pretty little things, too, and will look so lovely wearing Nelle colors!

So, I present sweater #2: Debbie Bliss’s Baby Shrug, size 18 mos.

Babies born in Nashville, Tennessee, in March don’t get much time to wear handknits when their first born. The weather is to warm to soon;-) So I made this for her to wear all next winter, and surprisingly, I think it will fit one of her big sisters right now if Rachel wants to get some use of it now!

This pattern was, once again, so simple and quick. It knits flat, sleeves and everything, and then you seam up the side and the bottom of the sleeves. I think the pattern called to knit the edging before the seams were put into place, but I ignored that part, seamed it up, and then edged all the way around for five rows.

And what baby is good without a classy little handknit hat! I made this one a Debbie Bliss Pompon Beret. Minus the pompon, which I didn’t feel up to at the time.

The problem is that I was at work (and I am a librarian, with all of the knitting books in my special and attentive care!!) and I was pouring over Simply Baby one afternoon, and bookmarked half a dozen patterns. These two were the ones that have been made. And I think that little Miss Audrey is all set for a while!

Surprise!

Isn’t it lovely! Just one of the things that have flown off my needles in the past few weeks. I swear I’ve been more productive than ever since the time change, and even just since Christmas!

This is a little baby surprise jacket that I knit for my friend Rachel’s new little baby girl. She is a tiny little thing, and won’t fit in it for months, but since she is a spring baby, I decided to knit for NEXT winter. She is currently fitting in the sweater that I made for her big sister a year and a half ago;-) and I think her sister could probably fit in this right now!

I had loads of fun making this little jacket. It seams up the top of the shoulders, and I am finally (after all of these years!) feeling like I am understanding the seaming process. They didn’t turn out bulky or uneven, and that is something new for me! Historically I have hated any kind of finishing with a passion.

One of my favorite parts of this jacket is the cute little pink vintage buttons! J’adore boutons vintage! I have whole jars of them, and as I run my fingers through them, I dream of all the little handknits that they should adorn.

For more information about the yarn I used for this project, please read my last post. It is lovely, soft, and I do love the colors. I made two other projects out of it, which I will be sure to share with you soon!

The Invisible Storm

I have been knitting more dilligently than ever these days, but I’ll tell you what. It is very hard to maintain a knitting blog without a camera. I know I keep harping on that note. I have saved about half the money that I need for a new one, but the saving is going slowly, and then my ipod died the other day on my walk to work! The choice is hard, but I think the camera is coming before a new ipod. I can think to myself or perhaps hum a bit on my 17 minutes of walking;-)

A dear friend had her baby last Thursday, and I have been knitting lots of cuttie-puttutie baby things. I made a baby surprise jacket, and Debbie Bliss baby shrug, and a little beret… and I used a special colorway of Lorna’s Lace Shepherd Worsted Multi. The colorway is Nelle, and it was commissioned by my local yarn store in memory of a local knitter who died of breast cancer. A portion of the proceeds go to breast cancer research, and the colorway is lovely- blue and pink and brown. I am headed to Nashville next weekend and will try to get some pictures before I deposit the knitted goods in the hands of mamma.

More recently, this evening in fact, I have been knitting a pair of mitered mittens. They are flying off of my needles! I have wanted a pair for some time now, and as demonstrated earlier, I am spending a good bit of time making things for myself right now. Two sweaters and a beret were made for baby, but all the rest so far this year has been for me! Once I get a bit of an inventory of useful items for myself, I am sure the knitting for others will resume. I have my mom’s birthday coming in May, and that kicks off the marathon of birthdays that continues until Christmas;-) So really, this is the last month that I can knit for myself for a while!
