Another Half-Finished Project

Diminishing Rib Cardigan, Interweave Knits Spring 2009

Diminishing Rib Cardigan, Interweave Knits Spring 2009

I have been working dilligently on this. It is a fast knit, and I am on the third and final set of ribbing. I have 8 of 15 inches that are required before BO, and then I have to add the sleeves.. The interesting little detailing on this cardigan includes tubular icord edging that is build right in. It is created by using a slip stitch sequence for the first 3 and the last 3 stitches of every row. I think I messed the Icord cast-on up, but I’m not to worried about it.

I didn’t finish the wrap. I have laid it aside for a little while. I am seriously considering giving it to Jill’s mom for Jill’s birthday in August, so I am going to take my time finishing it. It will be done soon. I also have to finish my Stephanie Japel Wrap Around Sweater. I am going to finish these three project before starting any others. Oh actually, four projects, because I have a secret project that I am working on, too, for Austin, and although he doesn’t pay much attention to this blog usually, I am not going to say what it is on the off chance that he stubbles over here between now and the second week in July;-) It is a fun project though, and I can’t wait to show you!

I Come By It Honestly

I was sitting here this evening, reading over some long neglected papers that my sister gave me a few months ago. An envelope with some family history documents… I was skimming over one of my relatives DAR application which recounts of the lives of those ancestors who served in the revolutionary war, and I came across this–the inscription on the tombstone  of one of my great great greats (and so forth) grandmothers:

“Ann Poague McGinty who brought the first spinning wheel to Kentucky and made the first linen and linsey”

The documents were gathered by my great grandmother, who was 5 generations separated from this woman. I had heard stories of her when I was small. My great-grandma was a believer in stories and in our family’s heritage. She was raised not far from where Ann McGinty had spun her first yarn from buffalo wool. I should go visit.

I feel quite at home now, and think I might get the wheel out for a nice evening, tending to the family business!

Relaxing

Went on vacation this last weekend, and had a nice, peacefull time. We went up to East Tennessee to visit some of Austin’s family. I got lots of knitting in!

It gave me time to work on Jill’s wrap, and to think about things. I even did a little bit of crying. I am still crying a little bit…I think I will for a while. The wrap is coming along quickly, but I think I am going to wait to send it to her mom until August- Jill’s birthday was in August, and I think it might be special to give it to her then.
